Travel:

a) UNDP will cover the cost of travel of the individual to the duty station, as well as their return to their home upon completion of their services. Travel costs are covered only in the event that the function will be undertaken physically in the duty station and excludes working from home arrangements.

b) Include any official travel expected to be associated with performing the functions.

Institutional Arrangement

The consultant will work under the guidance of PVE Project Manager, UNDP BRH. For the effective delivery of the above outputs, the Officer will liaise with the Regional Gender Advisor and Senior Advisor for Peacebuilding at UNDP Philippines

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work

The Officer is expected to coordinate the overall PVE community engagement and advocacy efforts of the Regional UNDP PVE project through:

  1. Capacity building and advocacy

Provide support in regional exchanges on topics related to PVE community;
Assist Country Offices in the development and implementation of integrated gender; programming/activities for PVE regional programme;
Lead regional exchanges on topics related to PVE community;
Coordinate and strengthen the gender components of the PVE programme including the women’s civil society organization engagement initiatives, partnership with other UN agencies and the development of integrated Gender/PVE activities;
Support UNDP Country Offices to enable credible intermediaries to promote dialogue across lines of tension and convene and facilitate critical conversations between traditional or religious leaders, civic activities, artists, teachers, media anchors with legitimacy to mediate;

  1. Assisting the creation of strategic partnerships and support;

Identify key partners for programme initiatives around gender, youth and religious communities;
Support the PVE Project Manager in resource mobilization, proposal development, and knowledge products;
Expansion of existing tools/knowledge that will be applied to a wider PVE community, may include localised adaptation of the tools/knowledge.

  1. Ensuring facilitation of knowledge building and management.

Lead in the logistics, moderation and facilitation of programmes and events that focus on women, youth and religious leaders at national levels from the regional perspective;
Consolidate knowledge and best practices on PVE community-based prevention, de-radicalization, reintegration and reconciliation efforts in Asia.

Required Skills and Experience

Min. Academic Education

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree, or equivalent in Human Rights or Political Science, or other relevant social science studies

Min. years of relevant Work experience

  • Relevant experience working with CSOs, NGOs and community stakeholders on gender equality issues, including experience working on conflict prevention and peacebuilding issues.  If candidate has only Bachelor’s degree, 2 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Experience working with a UN Agency based in Southeast Asia would be desirable.

Required skills and competencies

Working knowledge of CSOs and other international organizations that work in PVE in the region is an asset.
Experience in producing and providing inputs on written materials including blogs, newsletters, concept notes, briefing notes, writing reports, policy documents and research products.

Desired additional skills and competencies

Excellent administrative skills demonstrated through previous administrative positions such as organizing events, logistics, and supporting with project coordination.
Required Language(s) (at working level)

Excellent writing and communications skills in English.
